the college ministry epic, pt 1

Like I said earlier, I'm going to get you caught up on the story of MERGE, our college-age ministry at GCC, little by little.  Here's the next installment.

We launched our new college-age ministry at GCC in September 2006 with a once-a-month gathering.  The band was screaming loud (exactly as it should be) and I tried my hand at teaching.  One of the nights I recall was:

  • NOW: Finding a Purpose in the Holding Pattern
Feel like your life is in a holding pattern?  Waiting to get to the good stuff… the stuff that matters?  David found out that the trivial life of a shepherd was directly connected to his destiny as a king.  There is no such thing as a holding pattern.  These years in your life matter.

It was our first attempt to speak specifically to 18-25 year olds.  You may have noticed by now that this sounds like a worship/teaching gathering; you might be wondering how it could have connected 18-25 year olds to each other if they were all facing forward listening to me.  Good question.  In about five minutes you figured out what took me 2 months to understand.  More on that next time…
